The Old Way is Dead. The Independent Creator is Born.

Updated 1 October 2026 · Pludor team · 5 sources

An independent creator sells from one link they own: a page where followers can buy, book or download without being sent to five other sites. You keep the customer, their email and the data, so a change to one platform's algorithm cannot take your income away.

Build my selling page →Free to start - no card needed

Start here

Most creators start with a link-in-bio page that lists other places: a shop on one site, a booking tool on another, a newsletter somewhere else. Each extra tap is a chance for a follower to leave. Selling from one link means the link itself is the shop, with checkout on the page.

What you need

  • One link you control (your own page or store address), used in every bio
  • One clear offer at the top: the thing most followers ask you about
  • Checkout on the same page, so buying takes one or two taps
  • A way to collect buyer emails with their consent
  • A short reason to tap the link in every post ("the preset pack from this video is in my bio")

Beginner mistakes to avoid

  • A bio page with 12 equal buttons and no clear first choice
  • Sending people to a marketplace where the next seller's product sits beside yours
  • Never asking buyers for an email, so every launch starts from zero
  • Waiting for a big audience before selling. Small, engaged audiences buy

How to do it

How do I turn my link in bio into a shop?

Replace the list of links with a page that shows your products and takes payment on the page.

  1. Pick the one product or service followers ask about most and put it first
  2. Add a photo, a one-line promise and a price
  3. Turn on checkout so followers pay without leaving the page
  4. Keep your other links lower on the page for people who want them
  5. Put the same link in every bio: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X and your WhatsApp status

How do I decide what to sell first?

Sell the thing your audience already asks you for, in the simplest form that delivers it.

  1. Read your last 50 comments and DMs and list the repeated questions
  2. Turn the top question into an offer: a guide, a template, a session or a product
  3. Price it low enough to say yes quickly, high enough to be worth your time
  4. Announce it to your audience with one post and one story a day for a week

How do I get followers to tap the link?

Give a specific reason in every post, and make the first thing they see on the page match that reason.

  1. Name the exact thing: "the 7-day meal plan from this video is in my bio"
  2. Pin a post or video that shows the product in use
  3. Use stories with a link sticker when the platform allows it
  4. Keep the item from the post at the top of your page that week

How do I keep my customers if a platform bans or buries me?

Own the relationship: every buyer gives you an email or phone number with consent, and you can reach them without any platform.

  1. Collect email at checkout and ask permission to send updates
  2. Send buyers something useful after purchase (a tip, an update, a bonus)
  3. Export your customer list regularly and keep a copy
  4. Post your own link on every platform so followers can follow you anywhere

How do I combine products, bookings and downloads on one page?

Group them by what the follower wants to do: learn, buy, or work with you.

  1. Learn: guides, templates, courses
  2. Buy: physical products or merch
  3. Work with me: bookings, consultations, brand enquiries
  4. Put a short line under each group so people go straight to the right one

How do I price my first offer?

Start from the value of the result for the buyer, then check what you keep after fees.

  1. Find 3 to 5 similar offers and note their prices
  2. Place yours by how specific and complete it is
  3. Work out what you keep after the platform and card fees
  4. Raise the price once you have sales and good feedback, not before

Common questions

What is the difference between a link-in-bio page and a storefront?

A link-in-bio page sends people to other sites. A storefront is where they buy, with the product, the price and checkout on the page itself.

Do I need a website to sell as a creator?

No. A store page with checkout works as your website. Many creators add a full website later, once they have products and steady sales.

Can I add a link to my TikTok bio?

TikTok shows a website link on profiles that meet its requirements, such as a minimum follower count or a business account (TikTok Support). Until then, put the link in your Instagram or YouTube bio and mention it in videos.

How many followers do I need to start selling?

There is no minimum. A few hundred people who trust you can be enough to make your first sales, especially for a specific, useful offer.

Should I use a marketplace or my own page?

Use both if it helps: a marketplace for discovery, your own page for the followers you bring yourself, so their purchase and email stay with you.

Is a creator business allowed to sell AI-assisted products?

Yes, as long as you respect the rules of each platform and copyright law. Purely AI-generated material is not protected by US copyright; your own writing, editing and arrangement are (US Copyright Office).

Going further: scale and grow

Stack products to raise what each buyer spends

Pair a low-priced entry product with a bigger one: a template with a course, a preset pack with a 1-to-1 edit, merch with a members-only video. Show the pair on the same page.

Compare costs before you choose tools

Some creator tools charge a monthly fee and nothing per sale, such as Stan Store's plans from $29 a month with no transaction fee (Stan pricing). Others are free but take a share of each sale, such as Gumroad's 10% + 50¢ on direct sales (Gumroad pricing). Work out which is cheaper at your monthly sales.

Turn content into a sales calendar

Plan each month around one offer. Teach the problem in week one, show results in week two, open the offer in week three, share buyer stories in week four.

Measure the link, not just the likes

Track taps on your link, purchases and repeat buyers. A post with fewer views that sends more taps is the one to repeat.

Build a list you can sell to without ads

Your buyer list is the cheapest place to launch the next product. Send it value often and offers rarely.

Use AI for this

AI can do the slow parts of running a creator store, so more of your time goes into making things.

  1. Find the offer. Paste your top comments and DMs into an AI assistant and ask it to group the repeated questions into product ideas.
  2. Write the page. Ask it for a one-line promise, a short description and an FAQ for each product, then rewrite them in your voice.
  3. Make the visuals. Use an AI image tool for product mock-ups, covers and a page header.
  4. Plan the content. Ask for a 30-day content plan built around one offer, with hooks for each video.
  5. Answer buyers. Use an AI assistant to draft replies to common questions, and check each one before it goes out.

Be careful

AI drafts can sound generic. Your stories, results and opinions are what make followers buy from you instead of anyone else.
